Extractions in Kansas City
Here are some important guidelines following a tooth extraction:
Avoid chewing until anesthetic numbness has worn off.
Keep biting pressure on cotton gauze until bleeding has stopped. This will usually be within the first 1-2 hours after your visit. Change gauze when it becomes saturated.
If bleeding persists beyond this time, you may try biting on a moist tea bag. Tea has natural blood coagulants and can help stop bleeding.
In the unlikely event that bleeding remains uncontrolled, please call our office immediately at 816-221-8686.
Avoid smoking, vaping and other tobacco products.
Do not drink through a straw.
Avoid chewing gum.
Avoid hot and cold extremes in food and drink.
Continue eating normally, but avoid hard or crunchy foods.
Take ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed.
