Tooth Colored Fillings in Kansas City

For many years, silver amalgam fillings were the most commonly used material to restore small areas of decay in teeth. Not only did these fillings potentially lead to health concerns due to the presence of mercury in silver amalgam, they also could be damaging to the tooth structure due to expansion and leakage.  Today, tooth colored fillings eliminate the potential health concerns as well as the unattractive silver color and create a more natural appearance. Additionally, tooth colored fillings do not block out X-rays which allows for better monitoring of recurrent tooth decay.

Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam fillings are susceptible to temperature changes which can lead to cracking of the natural tooth structure.  Additionally, some sources suggest that silver amalgam fillings can have a detrimental effect to your overall health.

For these reasons as well as the cosmetic challenges of silver fillings, Dr. Bruso has chosen to use tooth colored composite fillings exclusively for the conservative reconstruction of teeth.

Tooth Colored Fillings

Patients prefer tooth colored composite fillings as they are very natural in appearance.  They can be used to restore decay as well as repair chipped areas of the tooth.

An added benefit of tooth colored composite fillings is that they allow preservation of natural tooth structure. A silver amalgam filling requires greater removal of tooth structure to facilitate mechanical retention and placement of the silver material.

"When a filling is the appropriate restoration, our patients appreciate tooth colored composite fillings as a safe, metal-free, aesthetically pleasing option.
