TMJ/TMD Relief: Neuromuscular
Appliance Therapy in Kansas City

Many people in Kansas City experience jaw, neck and head pain caused by TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder).

Symptoms of TMJ include jaw clicking/locking, radiating jaw pain, migraine headaches, neck pain and even upper back pain.

TMJ symptoms are often related to an increase in stress.  Teeth clenching as well as teeth grinding (Bruxism) may also aggravate symptoms.  Many people clench and/or grind their teeth unconsciously when under stress or when sleeping.  Our office provides several treatment options to reduce clenching and grinding which can help alleviate symptoms.

"Jaw clenching and teeth grinding can cause headaches, earaches and sometimes even facial, neck and upper back pain. This can result in damage to your teeth, gums and temporomandibular joint. The use of a custom appliance is very effective in management of these conditions."

Oral Appliances in Kansas City

Oral appliances are used to treat symptoms related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). A variety of oral appliances can be used to help treat this debilitating condition.

An oral appliance for TMJ, also known as a TMJ splint, bite plate, or bite guard, is a removable dental device that can help treat TMJ pain

  • Purpose

TMJ appliances reduce contact between the teeth which in turn reduces jaw pressure helping to relax facial muscles used in chewing.

  • How it works

We will take a 3-D model of your teeth and fabricate a custom designed appliance from our dental lab.  The splint can cover all or part of your upper or lower arch of teeth.

  • How to use it

You will be instructed on how to wear the appliance which may be all day, only at night or a combination depending upon your specific needs. We will continue to monitor your appliance therapy and make any necessary adjustments as needed.  Please bring your appliance with you to all of your dental visits.
