Dental Implants in Kansas City

Here are some important guidelines following the placement of dental implants:

  • Avoid chewing until anesthetic numbness has worn off.

  • Normally, there is very little bleeding once an implant is placed.  If instructed to bite on gauze, do so until any minor bleeding has subsided.

  • Avoid smoking, vaping and other tobacco products.

  • Avoid direct contact with implant or surrounding tissues for 1-2 weeks or until otherwise directed.

  • If bone grafting was done simultaneously with implant placement, avoid drinking through a straw, chewing gum and vigorous rinsing of your mouth.

  • Mild to moderate discomfort may occur. Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) will generally be adequate to manage any pain.  If prescription pain medication was prescribed, please follow label instructions.

  • Finish all antibiotics prescribed.
