Root Canal Therapy in Kansas City
Each tooth contains a soft tissue (nerve) that provides internal nourishment and keeps the tooth strong. Additionally, the nerve acts as an alarm system to alert the body in the event of a problem. In some instances, the nerve inside a tooth can be irritated or damaged to the point where it can no longer function.
Root canal therapy (endodontics) is a procedure where the damaged nerve tissue is removed from within the interior of the tooth. This eliminates pain and the potential of infection from the diseased nerve tissue. Almost all teeth that require root canal therapy will also require a crown because the nerve no longer provides a blood supply nourishing the tooth internally which creates the potential for the tooth to crack.
Signs that you might need a root canal include:
Tooth sensitivity, especially to hot or cold
Sharp pain when chewing or biting
Pimples on your gums
Chipped or cracked teeth
Swollen or painful gums
Deep decay or darkened gums
